Blackfoot Public Library Computer Room
and Internet Use Policy
The library provides free public computers and Internet access to library
patrons on a first come, first served basis. Library cardholders may make
reservations at the circulation desk, or by phone, up to 24 hours in
advance. Cardholders can sign up for a maximum of 1 hour at a time. Usage
is limited to 3 hours per week. Non-library cardholders may use computers,
as available, in 15-minute increments, within the above limits.
Patrons are expected to use computers
courteously and responsibly. Parents and guardians as well as children are
responsible for the information accessed by children. Illegal activity is
unacceptable. Viewing or downloading pornographic material is strictly
forbidden. “Pornographic material” is defined as any image that depicts
partial or complete nudity, or any act of explicit sexual nature.
The Internet is a vast and unregulated
network that provides information and images that may be considered
inaccurate or inappropriate. The library cannot protect individuals from
information and images that may be disturbing. Any restriction of a child’s
use of the Internet, outside of this policy’s guidelines, is the sole
responsibility of the child’s legal guardians.
While all library information
and legal activities are protected and confidential under Idaho state law,
inappropriate activity will be handled in accordance with the guidelines set
forth in this policy. Illegal activity will be reported and will be subject
to prosecution by the appropriate authorities. Violation of this policy
will result in the loss or suspension of computer privileges.
